I don't need new batteries yet but I was wondering if you could replace the OEM batteries with AGM batteries? Will the alternators charge a AGM battery?
Pep Boys sells Champion AGM batteries. Not sure how long they last, but they do have a 4 year free replacement guarantee. I just bought a few for one of the cars and the camper. Normally $200 ea, but they are on sale 25% off.
Same here.....put them in both trucks a few years ago. Excellent starting power. Plow with them - drawdown isn’t even noticeable
I had electrical issues (shorts) in both trucks (at different times) that drained the batteries multiple times while chasing the problems. Batteries charged right back up and continue to hold the charge, so the drain downs didn’t affect them.
They are the most powerful I could find, that are a direct replacement.
Same here and have had them in a few other vehicles too. My 2019 batteries had already started leaking and I don't have time to play the stupid warranty game with Ford for them to put the same garbage back in there- if they even replace them at all. Odysseys and done.
I put in two new X2 AGM 65 series batteries in my 2019 after both OEMs had leaked and the driver's side tested bad at the dealership. They did not offer any warranty replacement but wanted to sell me the same crap again - which I declined. The X2s from Batteries Plus were expensive compared to the OEM replacements but worth it in my opinion. Lights are brighter and no flicker, and no leaking battery acid on my hold-down clamps or battery trays.
I’ve been using Odyssey’s ever since I had my 6.0. Pretty bulletproof if you ask me. They were easy to get at Sears back then, wrapped in a Die Hard case. All good things must come to an end though and now it seems ordering them is the way to go. I’m sure the UPS guy loved it the last time I ordered two of them!
Lithium Ion batteries aren't usually considered a starting battery.
Consider that a BattleBorn 100 Ah battery is about $1000 and an Odyssey PC1750 is about $300. The BMS in the BattleBorn may shutdown the flow if you tried to pull as many amps at startup as the Odyssey can handle.
Specs on the PC1750
Pulse (5-second) Hot Cranking Amps (PHCA) 1750
Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) 950
20Hr Nominal Capacity (Ah) 74 <-- I think this is probably the closest number to compare to
Reserve Capacity Minutes 145
Just replaced my 2020s batteries with the Odyssey 1750s, same as I did with my 2017. With only 2k miles on the clock the driver's side was already moist on top.
