I'm trying to get my 1962 F-350 back on the road and am currently working on the differential, I've looked around and haven't been able to find out much of any info for to on the truck or online, all I know is it has a 5.87 gear ratio and ten bolts holding the back cover on.
also will any gear oil work or is there a specific weight I should get?
Edit: the limited amount of info I was able to scribe off the attached tag is: CITT-U 2443-3 7-61 5.87 Diff ring gear markings " 6 21 61 DANA 30806J1U17 47 "

Used to be 90 weight, the stuff they are selling now for it is generally designated as 80w-90.
What are you trying to find out about the rear? Are you having a problem with it?
I'm mostly just trying to figure out what I have, the only 'issue' i'm having with the rear are getting the drums off but that's something a a later post
If your warranty plate is still attached to the inside of the glove box door take a pic of it or type in what it says. We can tell you from that what it originally came with assuming it is not a special order axle.
Most common in a 1962 F350 would be the Dana 70 or a Timken B140.
alright, thanks for yalls help, sadly the warranty plate is no longer there, its been passed thru 3 hands before me so who knows what all this truck has been through.
Montgomery wards > some farmer > grandpa > me

For sure that's a Dana 70 of some type.
The brake drums are removed like every other full floating rear axle. The axle shaft comes out, then the lock nut, lock washer and inner nut. Then the whole hub and drum assembly slides off the axle housing. You are best served by backing the adjusters off if you can that way the shoes can clear rust and any wear ridge.
Be forewarned if you have six lug wheel pattern drums they are not available new anywhere so if you break one you are screwed.
I have torched the adjuster screw through the slot to get the drums off before it also helps to cut the hold down pins too.
If the wheels turn then you are usually ok rocking the drum and hub free
