Bad spark plug insert
I picked up a very clean one owner 2001 v10 4x4 X with just shy of 200,000 miles. paid $1700 and was informed by the owner that his mechanic told him it had spit number 3 spark plug. Sure enough half the coil pack was gone but it was drivable on to my trailer. I ordered up a Cal Van kit and started to repair the plug hole today. I was struggling to get the hole to drill out and then determined that the shavings were not aluminum but stainless steel. After further inspection with the scope I determined that it most likely had already been repaired at some past date. I spent hours trying to drill but am pretty sure I just ate up the 11/16 reaming bit that came with the kit.
So, has anyone experience a failed repair that didn't come out with the plug? Looks like the insert is still mostly in there but obviously it lost its threads. I don't know how a plug could get spit out of an insert as that seems to be pretty strong and that the insert to head would be the weak spot. I tried using some easy outs but the stainless is so hard it just eats up my easy outs. Thoughts? Thanks!
