The core charge for a diesel torque converter is $200. Not sure what the TC builders pay outright, but they seem to want these cores.
$300 isn’t a bad deal. Be sure to ask transmission shop what they’ll give you for your ‘extra’ core! A bare case costs about $200, a 4wd output shaft is $70 I think, not sure about 4wd tailhousing and there are lots of other ‘good parts’ in a core.

10-4. I have a local transmission shop that does a good job on these. He’s built a bunch for me over the years and none have broken yet! The TransGo kit and a quality triple disc TC seem to do very well (IF they know what they’re doing!). I always install a new Dorman 6.0 trans cooler and almost always add transmission temp gauge.
If your old trans is not broken and fluid still looks good, I’d advertise it for $850 obo and offer to let the buyer drive it before ya take it out. I usually get $650 for a ‘good, used 4R100’. I’d ask more for one someone can CONFIRM is good before buying. I try to get a core when I sell one, but will use that as a negotiating point. ‘No, I won’t take less - but if you take it today, I’ll let you keep the core. ‘

I am sure mine is fine, but never actually know when you buy a truck with 236k on it already LOL
Don't want to be pulling the trailer and transmisson goes boom!
we will see what kinda of a deal i can work out
I’ve seen transmissions torn down with more miles than that and they showed no signs of wear.
But, the last one I changed had been rebuilt 10yrs ago and it was FUBAR!! The owner was very conscientious and was monitoring trans temps when it pooped the bed... (did not run hot, but OD planetary set was total carnage)

wow that's a shame that even after being rebuilt it blew up, was it not done right? used crappy parts, maybe didn't do a full rebuild? Makes you wonder for sure
I have had a transmission serviced because i was sure it had never been, went to pick up the truck and it wouldn't move, they said servicing the transmission killed it, Had to get my lawyer involved cause they wanted me to pay them to replace it , they ended up rebuilding it but would not warranty it LOL yes of course they did finally, but again had to bring a lawyer in on the deal, you can bet i never will go back to them
I am leaving this one alone, till it needs to be rebuilt, then it will be done fully!
