tfi short ?
i have a 88ranger4x4 2.9.. problem is that i put a new TFI module . and it wont give me any spark@ the dist cap. i have replaced the cap-roter-plugs-wires-coil-tfi-and the distributor. i pulled the tfi this morning and did a resistance test and everything is good except the gnd-pip in test. with the old tfi mod i had the same problem. so i replaced it. so now i have 2 tfi mods that have the same problem. i have scratched my head for hours and i am starting to lose hair.lol. i sure would like some help.

Hello Ken. Thanks for getting back to me. The test i am doing is called ICM module resistance test. I found it in my chiltons ranger repair manual. it shows all the terminals(on the mudule) and gives you the resistance between them. so i get out the old ohms meter and go to testing and the only test problem i have is the gnd-pip in test. so i take the module back to the autoparts store(what a joke) and they put it on a computer tester and tell me,yep its got a blown chip in it.would you like to buy another one they say. when i replied i think i learned my 34$$ leson why should i flush another 34. ofcourse they couldnt tell me why or how. thats when my wife says she found this great ford site with a man name ken who knows fords. so here i am. hope you can help. i have never had any trouble with my ranger. its been a wonderful truck. tough as nails. runs like a champ always. until now.

I would start by pulling the codes, I have the procedure in the tech info post at the top of the forum. I'm think you will get an 18, the pinpoint test for the code 18 is also there. Let us know what you find.
