I have a 3 ton set that I used about two weeks ago while changing the clutch in my Mazda5. Spent lots of time under the car.
Harbor Freight gets my phone number for every purchase. You would think they could let people know.
When I buy a bag of salad or other food at Kroger or Sam's Club that is recalled I get notified. I have usually already eaten it by the time they let me know but they let you know.
61196 is apparently my 3 ton pair. I have another 3 ton pair by a different number. Thanks for sharing this.Heck, I know I got bit by one once when it was just starting to take a load.
I did get an email from them on the recall. I haven’t used them but once and if I recall correctly, I had trouble getting the pawl locked in at the time. 6 ton variety.
I've had too much trouble with Harbor Freight over the years to buy anything important from them today.
The only things I buy from them are disposables. Or things I view as disposable. If it's going in my toolbox after using it, it comes from somewhere else.
IMHO, the HF quality has come up. Sure, they have cheapy crap all over the shelves. But, the Pittsburgh brand has a lifetime warranty. So, even if you're turning wrenches for a living, a Pittsburgh brand vs Snap-On 10mm wrench is the same in my view. I think you just have to pick and choose what is deemed acceptable. Given the jack stand issue, I don't think I'll go back and get a new set once I get my money back. At this point, I'd rather use the wood block method.
Got mine returned today and picked up a mity vac in their place. Easy transfer and used the mity vac to bleed my rear brakes after a caliper lockup yesterday.
A few years ago, a friend of mine had a HF jackstand fail with his truck on it. I think he was changing springs. He wasn’t injured, but showed me the jackstand next time I saw him. I shot a video with my phone of it collapsing.
Anyhow, I posted the video on a “garage” forum and was belittled. I just came across the video again recently. Seems that my friends part number isn’t in the recall.
