EGR Valve
Help....can anyone please tell me what the tattle tail signs of an EGR Valve going out is .....how would the truck act or how would u know that it has gone out or something like that ....it's for a 89 f150 and has a 300 6 cyl....thanks

Poor idle, stumbling off idle, stalling. thats for a leaking EGR valve. The Check engine light shoudl come on If you have a problem. Go to Autozone and have the codes pulled. Bring the code here and we will help you figure out where the problem is.

I agree with fishin1976, except that the valve may be operating (diaphram moving and thus the sensor reads OK) but the valve seat is leaking when closed. (I have had a piece of the valve stem break off inside the EGR.) The Check engine light is more likely if the valve is not opening.

ok when morning starts happen,...It will start right off and go to high idle like it's supposed to and then it will die then start right off and not die....then it will flukuate on the idle up and down for about 2 or 3 min and then it smooths right out and is fine from then on...but when it's cold the check engine light will not go on untill the motor heats up when u get good cold air on the radiator the check engine light goes out and does not come back on.... so is this a EGR valve problem or could it b a MAP sensor so far the help that i have got from this site has been more then helpfull so hope this one does not give anyone big problems thanks for the help again................Rik
