I want to put stake sides in the bed. I am am seeking advice from other F1 owners who added stakes. Questions like type of wood and size?, do I need support across the cab?, internal supports?, etc. Your comments would be much appreciated.
That looks pretty nice! And I love the color. Flthed, I see your in NJ. Have you thought about coming to the Central PA Mountain Truckstock at the Bald Eagle State Park October 1-4?
I think Abe may be trying to have an exclusive, only Meadow Green, truckstop. We need to watch him!
Abe, as an aside, I do have a spare meadow green 48-50 bare cab. Would that qualify?
Hi Abe , yes I love that color too! It’s an unusual looking green. Not light not too dark. I like the Sheridan Blue as well. Speaking of colors what I’d like to see is a truck fully restored like new but primed only as it would’ve been by the factory. They came that way originally as an option. I’m assuming it would’ve been a red oxide primer?
but as far as truck stop goes can you give me an address I’ll map it. I can’t imagine how’d I’d get there in the old truck but it sure sounds like fun! Does anyone with stock gears get on the interstate? I have 3.92. I spoke to Chuck about switching to another gear ratio as a practical option.
P.S. my truck is getting painted so you might not recognize it next time...
Tire size will also play a factor. Here's a fun calculator to play with. https://www.crawlpedia.com/rpm_gear_calculator.htm
Pinto, to be running 60 on the highway with 4.27's at 2600rpm, you must have tires about 33" tall, correct?
You should be able to do 55-60. I have a 4.27 rear, I’m going about 60 in this photo on the turnpike. I’m running a y block. Dennis
hi Dennis , I’m putting new tires on it now the ones on there before we’re 25 years old at least. New to me truck since last August So I was driving it locally and had it up to 55-60 a few times for 5 minutes. Mechanic said tire were ok but I didn’t trust it fully.
id give it a shot though now . So you run your truck on a three lane highway? Or just take two lane county roads to truck stop?
Hi Jeff, are the stakes for show or they going to strap things in? No need of a cross support unless ya hauling stuff. Oak is a good wood for stakes but any wood will work, just put a good finish/ sealer on them .... 3"x 3/4" is what I used on my truck long time ago but you can make any size ya want.

Now don't go and think that I am an anti-paintite! Ford trucks of any color paint (or no paint) are accepted and welcomed at the Central PA Mountain Truckstock!
