New Purchase Problems

I am in the process of purchasing a new 2003 Limited 4x2 Excursion built in January, 2003. I have been told that the first six months of production, the owners have been the testers of these newly designed 6.0L Turbodiesel engines. What type of problems can I expect to encounter? What is my chance of having no problems with the engine? Or should I get out of the deal & purchase a newer model. Thanks.

When I bought my 03 Ex PSD, I would not take a build date earlier than May/03. After reading all the posts here and other ford forums about the 6.0's, I would not take a truck built that early personally. I won't say that you will have problems but your odds are higher the earlier the build date, IMO.

I agree, you can either fight your way out of the deal and get a newer 2003 or 2004 Excursion, or you can risk it with the build date being what it is. If they fix the problems and reflash the engine with the newer or newest flash (September 24th, if I'm not mistaken), I'd go for it. If not, don't bother. You'll probably just bring yourself a world of pain and anger. Then again, you could get lucky and not have any problems whatsoever. It's all up to you.
