Half way in to my ”to do-list” on my 1973 F250 Ranger. One of the things, haven’t started with it yet, but my girlfriend made me remember it....hard, yesterday as we were driving some furniture. Both windowregulators are really hard to use when closing the windows....I mean, I have to stop the truck and push the up by hands
on the glass. Is this a common issue on these trucks? Have tried to search for it here but no sucsess...
Yes I’m going to dismantle the doorcovers and have a look. But not sure how the mechanism works yet. Is there a particular part here that ofte fails? Or just take it apart and grease it up?
Busy with the bed and paint these days. Got finished yesterday with removing rust and bondo some tiny spots. Have rustproofed the whole bed, waiting for it to dry(24h), and then it’s on to white original paint for the outside and Raptor bedliner to finish it up
My windows were same way when I got truck. Remove door panels, clean and lube tracks and pivot points. It will make a huge difference.
On a personal opinion note, the inside of your bed looks exceptionally good, if you won't be using your truck for hauling nasty stuff like gravel, dirt, etc you'll be shoveling out, think hard about using the spray bed liner coating. Its pretty much permanent so you don't ever want to wish you hadn't applied it.
I agree , really think about the raptor. spray in bed liner devalues a pickup faster than most any alteration you can do, high end collectors have told me they deduct 20% . maybe you don't care now but someday you might regret it . I would prime it and shoot it white if I were you. I don't know what it would cost where you are but here for $200 you can get a Penda liner which is much better than spray in and you can remove it in 5 minutes.
In addition to cleaning and lubing your window hardware you may need to replace the channel runs and or the sweeps.
Mine were also heavy; spray lube in the regulator and white grease at the external bearing points. Some dry silicone lube in the window tracks is nice but generally when you get the lower end set up right, the windows already work pretty easily by then.
This is not going to be a total restoration of the truck. I just want to stop the 30-40 year old rust and use it for every purpose here. Seen another local truck with the same bedliner and it looks very nice. Maybe here it’s more popular to do it this way that I’m doing? Tried a couple before I bought this one and the also had the same bedliner. Looks nice and rugged! A 2k spray wont be as tuff as raptor, pretty sure of it. Doing it proffesionally will cost a fortune in Norway, 200$ will give me nothing
Also not spraying Raptor bedliner all over the bed here, only inside and walls, not over the top of the bed, cause that look weird
Will do it black, and won’t be selling it either, so the choice is easy. Thanks for the advise guys
Paint tomorrow and windowmechanism on tuesday, will give you pictures and report about how it helped
