Having an issue with my 2006 Expedition a/c, it seems that the high side pressure is building to a point that all freon gets purged from system and then i have to recharge. Each time i recharge the a/c will work fine. Problem most commonly occurs if parked with the engine running and a/c on. Any help would be much appreciated.
Does your engine cooling fan work properly?
Is the condenser clean?
Have you had a manifold gauge set on the system when the high pressure relief valve popped? If so, what were the pressure readings?
Put a manifold gauge set on it and monitor the system pressures. When you see the high side rise above 350 spray some water into the front of the condenser to see how far the high side falls. Your problem is probably lack of airflow through the condenser. You don't have a bug screen in front of it do you ? The fins in good shape ? Then I would be looking at the fan and fan clutch (righty tighty, lefty loosy...). You should see 35-45 psi on the low side and 250-350 on the high side at 1500 rpm.
Replaced the condensor since it had a leak then vacuumed the system down and recharged and worked great for about 4 days then nothing again. Now i am replacing dryer, the expansion block, and compressor. Any tips on getting the compressor in and out been struggling a bit. Really tight down there
