Reverse Lights Activating a Back-Up Camera

A while back I installed a new multimedia sound and DVD system with a back-up camera into my 2010 6.4L F250, but could not locate a wire to tap into that would activate the reverse camera. I tried running a lead from the back-up lights and the camera all the way back to the cab, but that is not a good idea and if I ever have to remove the cab from the box it would have to be cut. My solution was not something I was able to find in the forums so I am posting it here. I first found a wireless interconnect for the camera, the transmitter becomes powered on through the reverse lights, then the receiver is wired on when the system is powered on through the ignition. Next was the reverse light sensor wire to turn the dash screen on when the truck is placed in reverse. I could not locate a wire that becomes +12V hot when the truck is placed in reverse. I looked in the bundle of wires from the dash to the rear of the cab and could not find it. I finally located the reverse light relay in the fuse and relay box under the hood. I thought I would share some pics to take some of the mystery out of the location.

Cheers

The radio should have a camera polarity setting in its setup interface. Toggle that to its alternate option and it should bring the camera on (unless you have the wiring incorrect).

It sounds like it is working like it is suppose to. Let me explain, a few years ago there was a law passed that made it illegal for those multimedia systems to play DVDs and display the camera unless the truck is in park or reverse. It is a safety issue they claim, to prevent people from watching DVDs, the TV, or the rear camera while driving. Amazon and eBay sell by-pass relays that you can connect to the park brake wire and reverse sensing wire to make the system think you are in park in order to watch the video, or to think that you are in reverse so you can watch the rear camera while driving. This sounds is what it sounds like to me.

Cheers.
