Question Battery Box

I have a 48 F1 w/a firewall mounted battery box. It's ugly and I hate where it's at. The only place I can see to reasonably place it and have it still usable is behind the right tire hanging off the frame. I have the clearence with the tire and the fender just happens to be off at the moment, so I thought??? Does anyone with a 48 to 52 have an idea where else I could put the space grabbing battery? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

What engine do you have in the truck? THe flat v8's had it on the pass side on the frame just in front of the firewall. The straight 6 was on the drivers side, roughly in the same spot. They were never on the firewall itself. The Other brand of trucks had it mounted that way.

Also the only way to remove the V-8 battery holder is to remove that side engine panel unless bend the panel.

battery location

not sure about the amount of room under the cab of the f-1s... but on my '53 the battery will be behind the passengers running board mounted in a drop down battery box...

several vendors sell the boxes although they are a little pricey... I made one from stainless 1/8 plate with stolen dimensions taken from Mid-50's unit at the supernationals...

battery box

I have a 351W and a T10 4 speed behind that. The battery box was mounted on the right side of the firewall when I bought the truck. I want out of the engine compartment. I think I'll look into mounting it behind the running board. Thanks for the tip John.

This may not be the most popular choice, but I mounted my battery in the cab in between the bucket seats. I made a cover to match the seats, that a third passenger can sit on in a pinch. I am sure I will here the "battery needs venting " comments, but I have never had a problem (or smell)
