Mounted on the bottom side middle of the dash on my '78 F250 with 460 & C6, but not sure what it is/does?
I apologize for such a 'dumb' question, but it has three wires coming out of the back side which one runs to aftermarket oil pressure gauge, one to aftermarket temp gauge, & the other wire gets lost in the wiring taped together under dash. It also has a small diameter steel line coming out of the back & going through the fire wall to the rear top side of intake manifold & mounted in conjunction with some other kind of sending unit {oil pressure?}.
On the front left side of this there is the bar which may be pushed in for some function I suppose.
Thank you for any help/insight for this inept shade tree mechanic!
Geez , you make me feel old. I've never seen that brand but I had to install a brake controller on every pickup the first day it came from the dealer to my dad's ranch.
Just remove or put a plug in the T by the master cylinder and yank it out if you want it gone.
I think you misunderstood where it goes, not to the brake master cylinder: "a small diameter steel line coming out of the back & going through the fire wall to the rear top side of intake manifold & mounted in conjunction with some other kind of sending unit {oil pressure?}. " So I don't think it has anything to do with the brakes. It ends in a T-fitting on the rear of the intake manifold which has what looks like a sending unit on the other side of the T & the T is coming out of the engine, likely the intake manifold which makes me guess 'oil pressure', not sure!?
you might try retracing the lines. The line coming off the brake controller is a different diameter and material than the line connected to the oil pressure sender...that smaller copper line should go to the back of the oil pressure gauge in that aftermarket gauge cluster.
Right you were gentlemen {gentle persons, if any of our female counterparts are listening!}! I retraced & got it disconnected from the brake master cylinder.
I am musing now about whether or not I should also drain the brake fluid from the whole system & refresh with new since this has sat for over a decade & has over 110,000 on it. Suggestions?!?
Thank you again for participating in my work!
It wouldn't hurt anything. the best way to do that is to use a mighty vac and just pull new fluid through the lines then you don't end up with any air. just be sure not to let the master cylinder run dry in the process.
