Hey I just replaced the head gaskets in my 7.3 idk and now it seems to almost have a knocking like sound (sounds like a diesel trying to lock up on starting fluid) but this knocking sound isn’t constant and it seems to go away if you stand on it...I was just wondering if a bent injector tip could be the problem...thanks
Does it have an auto trans? I had a flexplate crack and it sounded like the engine was going to come apart. Same symptoms. Real bad at idle but quiets down under load. I looked up in at it and I could see the crack.
you had the engine hydro locking on you... so when you pulled the heads did you send them to machine shop for NDI ?
did you inspect the Cylinders or have a machine shop inspect the cylinders ?
I know you said you just replaced the head gaskets, but did you discover if they were in fact leaking ?
Yes I had the heads sent out and everything checked out ok and the head gasket was getting rotten and was leaking through...it ran pretty good on the first start after the head change so I shut it back off and changed the oil and topped off the antifreeze again and when I went to start it again it started acting goofy
and it just started smoking today it wasn’t before.
I installed used injectors on my 6.9l NA from the 7.3l IDIT I bought about 2 years ago. When I had everything buttoned up I got ready to start it and had my buddy crank it while I bled the injectors BUT it had a horrible knock.
Luckily I never started the engine. I just went ahead and removed the injectors and got new ones from the parts store. Once I installed those there was no knock and it ran like a champ. As Tom said, one of those salvage injectors was apparently stuck.
