Trying to change starter

I have a 1972 460 in my 78 f250. I'm trying to change the starter but its stuck in the motor. Got the bolts out and it moves a little if I push up on it but it won't drop out. Just keep wiggling it, pry on it a little or smash it with a sledge? Feels like the teeth are too engaged for it to come out. Maybe I'll rotating the motor a little with a breaker on the crank? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

New problem with starter replacement

Finally got the old one out and now the new one just makes a clunk when I turn the key. Almost like it has a low battery. The battery is good, the starter checks out good, new solenoid, all connections cleaned, battery fully charged. I drove the truck into the garage changed the oil fired it up with the old starter. When I went to pull the old one I pulled the wrong bolt and pryed up on the old starter until the ear broke off. woops. Not sure what the problem is now. Any advice would help.
