Question

a4ld transmission

will a a4ld transmission out of a 88 merkur scopio fit in a 1990 aerostar

It should. The A4LD case is the same for all models, just different internal components. If you will be using it behind a 3.0 engine, it should work. The 4.0 versions require stronger internals.

This also assumes you have an existing A4LD that will be the donor for the shifter, speedo cables, wiring, etc.

Hi Aerocolorado,

Is the A4LD in an AWD vehicle the same? Mine looks like it has a very different tail housing, where the transfer case is attached, than one without.

Yes, the extension housing is absent on AWD version. They just leave it off and graft the transfer case in its place.
