Loaded up!

Hope all is well. Loaded the Eagle Cap on the new F350-just to see how it would settle-I don’t have tie downs yet so didn’t drive anywhere. Sag = 4-4 1/2”.
Honestly “looked” to be about level, but that was the measured sag at wheel well.
When I get the tie downs on I’ll drive it stock and see how it feels. At 4” sag I expect I will have to do either SL’s or ES to bring the headlights back down...

Yes, I intentionally bought a long bed for short bed camper. The added bed length allows me to scoot the camper forward 5”-6” vs the short bed we had. This moves the COG well in front of the axle and leaves us a nice little storage area in the front of the bed. Can’t wait to “get out of jail” and go camping!

Nice looking rig, is it "wet" yet? Does the camper go all the way to the front, it might help with the sag a bit.

Have fun

Thumbs up

Lookin’ good, Bill!

Yeah, our F350 sagged quite a bit under our Lance 855s before I inflated the air springs. All’s now well with he springs inflated to ~35 psi each.

A tip, if I may. I got a little concerned about the exhaust pipe blasting the end of the right rear tie-down and turnbuckle, so I now use a Gibson #500388 turndown tip on the pipe when carrying the camper.

HTH,
Jim / crewzer

Actually, the TC is not “seated” in the pics. I was getting ready to unload and had already lifted her up when I remembered I should take a couple of pics.

Thx.

Camper was not wet. We typically leave with full fresh water (50 gals) so there will be another 400+ lbs in her when loaded.

Camper will not go all the way forward as they EC 850 has wings (permanent storage) in rear. I left about 2” off the tail lights. I will build a 12” platform as a stop As well. This worked out perfectly as we can put firewood, camp chairs etc in the extra space. Just what I wanted!

Now I need to figure out a front hitch?!

As fas as the exhaust; the rear tie down is already coated in diesel (anti-rust?!) from the last truck. I may add custom exhaust tip at some point-because i think a black tip will look better with this truck. I don’t usually do mods unless they are required (suspension). I am not really a hot-rodder. But’ we’ll see-I haven’t driven a gasser in a long time!

I also don’t like the 50’s era turndown tip’s appearance. It’s just there when carrying the camper; it come off and the OEM straight tip goes back on when the TC is removed.

I wasn’t able to find one In black.

Safe travels!

Bill Tex, regarding your front hitch, I put a Torklift Central Ecohitch front receiver hitch on my Super Duty. Here is the link although, you would have to pick the one that fits your truck depending on if it is gas or diesel etc .https://torkliftcentral.com/ford-fro...h-receiver?a=6

I love it and it connects directly to the frame up above the bumper so you do not lose any ground clearance at all. The receiver sits right behind where your licence plate it mounted. In fact, they send you a new license plate bracket that fits into the receiver that is pretty slick. It has a 10,000 lb pulling capacity and a 1000 lb weight rating so it is definitely stout. I put it on myself and it did not take a long time to do it but you will definitely need a buddy to help as you have to take off the front bumper etc..

Thanks wyo,

I have been looking at the ECO Hitch thread. Looks like the 20’s require quite a bit of surgery. And our Lariat sport pkg has a huge plastic chin. I am reluctant to start cutting up a brand new truck...

Would love a solution that uses the tow hooks. I may fab something up.

Thx, Bill

I would build the front spacer so the tailights are much closer, no more than half inch.

I ran mine closer than that (1/4") and never had a problem.

StableLoad uppers work great.

Thanks-I would like to get closer. Another 1” forward would be great and would put the COG several inches in front of axle. I was getting a little nervous backing in that close!

I am thinking of pressure treated 2 x 4 for the spacer-what did you use?

Yes, after a shake down trip, I suspect I will get upper SL’s.

Already started to fab a front hitch that will utilize the tow hooks-similar to the old bodiak design.

thx, bill

I had a long bed camper, didn't need the spacer. But I've seen a 2X4 frame used for a spacer.

When ever I loaded I would ease back until the taillights touched the camper, set the park brake, and then make the final adjustment with the jacks.

You can get it closer or further away by setting the front lower, or the real lower, first.

These are the two I had and I tell you the dually is much easier to load. The hips just did fit so it was easy to line up.
