Just for information

Earlier I stated that I bought gauges from Dolphin and I was very clear that it was for a 1950 F-1, in that purchase was the gas tank sending unit. The mounting plate on the sending unit is 2 3/4 inches across and the tank requires a plate of 3.5 inch diameter. I sent the company an email asking about this about 3 weeks ago with out response. I finally called them today and explained the situation and advised them that I did not receive an answer to my email. I got the impression from the lady I was talking with that she could care less if I got an answer or not. After biting my tongue, I asked if I should send their unit back and if I would get one with the correct mounting plate and was told that for $30.00 I could receive an adaptor to make it fit which would amount to a circle of metal. I told them I thought that was a rip off and I could make one. I just put this out for general information to maybe stop someone else from maybe getting ripped off.

I used Dolphin gauges in both my 48 F-3 and 49 F-1. The original tanks require an adapter to make the sender fit. You can get one at most any old Ford truck supplier. AFAIK, nobody makes a modern sending unit which fits the old tank pattern. The old pattern is 6 screws and a bit larger than the newer pattern. The adapter which sells for about $30 adapts the tank to accept a modern sender with 5 screws and in a bit smaller circle. It works well and well worth the $30.

If it’s just $30, that might be okay. If it’s plus shipping, Mid Fifty sells the same adapter for $19.50.

not much savings, I know, but every little bit helps.

I wish I had seen your post sooner about the same thing for about $20, but I just ordered the adaptor from dolphin. It comes to $38 with shipping. But thanks anyway for telling me.
