quick head question

I can't wait any longer, I've been saving to get Hick-em-up built, but I just HAVE to drive her again...I'm goin thru BB withdrawls like none other

The only prob with the truck now is the #7 cyl has no comp. I'm almost positive it's just a burnt valve or broken spring...anyhow I'll find out soon enough when I pull that head off....

My question is....

I have D3Ve-A2A heads....what are a better stock replacement, and what would it take to swap to them.....

I'm searching for the D0VE heads but would like to know if they'll be OK and what would I need to change to make it run right...

Any help is appreciated....

I've just about got the cash to do the steering rack and susp. work it needs, then onto the Engine, "chop top (bout 6")", and bed rebuild.....

If you go to D0VE heads, your compression will go from 8.0 to 1 to 9.5 to 1 or something close to it.
You will have to run early model pushrods (Shorter) and they use the ball type rockers instead of the pedistal type.
Other than that, they are a direct swap.
Oh, they won't have the holes in the ends to hook up the crossover smog pump tube if you are going to use it, I don't think.

It depends on which D0VE heads you get. I have one set with the emissions holes and 2 without. I believe the ones with the holes are from a Lincoln 460 and the other two are from 429's.

Yes, C8VE,C9VE, and D0VE's are basically the same head. The C8's are from the first year the 429/460 was made. Same size valves and the same size ports in all of them.

IMO if you plan on rebuilding the motor soon, and want to end up with about 9 to 1 or so CR, I wouldn't spend the money to get D0VE's. The 460 prefers flat top pistons, you won't see the same gains in performance using dished pistons with D0VE's. The D3's with flat tops will give you about the same CR, but with better performance. The D0VE's are good for 10+to 1 CR.

Now, if you have a good shortblock and don't want to put new pistons in it, then the D0VE's would be a good choice to increase power. It is a bolt on 90+hp. The heads are a straight forward bolt on, like lxman1 said, all you need is push rods that match the heads.
