Pull it apart before you order any parts. Crank might be fubar, block could be damaged.

Welcome again. Don't have any FE stuff left aside from two 427 pistons I saved as mementos. You can use either 352 or 360 rods, they're both the same part.

Ditto. could have cracked a main saddle with the rod jammed in there

Pulled it

Three months later and the sheet metal is all sold and out of my way, pulled the motor and trans last night. Found the cam plug rattling around the bell housing. Someone had made a hole in the engine plate. But that wasn't keeping it from turning. Number 5 cylinder had ingested a jug full of water and PO let it sit that way for who knows how long. It had built up enough rust to not turn. A hard scraper, mystery oil, emery cloth, and a ball hone and it turns. I have to take a better look in the daylight but I think I might just run it like that while I wait for a 390 crank and rods to fall in my lap.

Looks good from here

Hmmm something is missing

Well there's your problem.

Well shoot

Cam plug?

Lots of those block plates have a hole there from the factory. Had one 390 back in the early 80's that the rear cam plug refused to stay in place. Blew it out racing a Crapmaro one night. Still beat him too, even after dumping all that oil on the clutch and headers. Looked like the space shuttle going down the road. Crapmaro driver couldn't figure out how I beat him with a blown engine.

Nice! I had a guy in a fairly new Acura pull up next to me at a stoplight last week. I thought nothing of it until he burned rubber on the green, I wasn't even in gear yet. I got it in gear, ran him down in 2nd, and walked away when I hit 3rd. He wouldn't pull up even to my window at the next light and didn't try again.

So what do you think about boring this to fit 390 pistons? Want to stroke it.

Found a 428 crank

what rods am I looking for to put the 428 crank into the abovementioned 352? How about pistons? I have a set out of a 390. I have the 352 rods but I understand that they are weak? If they would even work. I don't know the math or measurements off hand.My ex-machine shop owner/tool guy said he has a 428 crank i could get off him for a steal...
I have

Same rods as a 390. Pistons have to be for a 428

I don't think that this block will take the 428 bore.

Yea, I got yours confused with another. Look for std bore 410 pistons, then bore your block .050

Bore your block to 4.050, the standard 360-390-410 bore.

What is the bore in your block now? If you are already .030 over, you are probably safe. .040? Will it clean up with just another .010? I do see .060 over pistons listed for 352s, so it must not be impossible to bore one to 4.060.

Measure twice, bore once.

Back in the day, every replacement piston was offered in .060, no matter what the engine was.
