I need HELP!
I have a '95 Bronco 4x4 with a 302. I just got a 6" lift and am starting out with some light performance mods. I wanted to free up the exhaust and intake. I just got a 3" dynomax ultraflow muffler welded in and ordered a 3" cat from carsound/magnaflow. Seems like there are not many mod options for 94-95 Broncos. I see more exhaust options for '86-93. I finally saw a y-pipe from bassini on the proficientperformance website and some header options. Does anyone know what happened after '93 that makes it harder to find parts? I liked the gt-40p heads, but finding headers that fit would be impossible. I have these heads on my '87 5.0 mustang. I'm also looking for an ignition system and want to get the 5.0 explorer intake. Any answers/advice would be greatly appreciated.
Shouldn't be much if any difference until 95-96. 95 California emissions equipped trucks went to mass air and ALL 96's went to mass air with the OBDII emissions and engine control system. Bassani makes a Y-pipe with the three O2 senor bungs in it. I believe there are several guys here running it. I think the reason for the lack of options is that many of the lesser exhaust fanufacturers aren't willing to do the R&D to make equipment for this setup especially since the newest of these trucks are already 7 years old.
There was a recent thread regarding intakes and the like. The simplest head/intake mod is made by Edelbrock. Pricey but well worth it. I think Capone is running an Edelbrock upper half to his engine if I am recalling correctly. The intake has a removable cover at the end of the upper plemun runners for polishing and modification. It is made specifically for the truck engines to maintain low end torque that trucks need to develope their power and there are three different throttle body options available: stock, twin 56mm, and twin 61 mm. The 61mm requires that you port match the intake to the throttle body. All of this is bolt on, 50 state emissions legal, direct replacement equipment. Might be worth a look see.
As to the ignition system, many have found the MSD family of ignition systems to work well with these trucks.
That's interesting! My '87 mustang was speed density until I got the conversion for it. Starting in '89 in California, they moved up to mass air so I assumed the trucks made the move too. I had some equal length headers on those gt-40p heads and that was a nightmare I don't want to repeat on the bronco...the edelbrock setup might be worth the money! Two of my house mates swore by Jacobs...they were both chevy knuckleheads though! Thanks fot the info.
I would also look into gettting a cam, this will also be a good mod. they make specific ones for our speed density motors that offer good power and wont cause the computer to freak out.
Yeah like Kem, said if you do go with a cam, make certain it is ok for speed density engines. Too much seperation on the lobes is where it usually starts getting you into trouble.
My bronco is a '95 mass air. I have the motorsports "F" cam in my mustang. I think if I use a cam for the Bronco, the "B" cam might be better...more power in the low rpm range. Anyone used any of the motorsports cams in their broncos?
