Chasing Zebras
Prior to this event, I had numerous codes, but they didn't prevent the Bronco from starting and running; just needed to be optimized.
( Crankcase sensor, O2 banks, Run Lean, Misfire, and others, to include an absent 12V to the rear end tailgate)
- Bronco was running fine, put gas in it and parked it overnight and come morning, no start ( Engine would crank and crank and crank, but it wouldn't turn over). Typically, I hear the rear fuel pump whine/prime when the ignition is ON......NOT this morning, no whine in the rear end.
Let the troubleshooting begin:
- ALL FUSES ARE INTACT!
- Kill switch to gas lines INTACT
- Relays in PowerDist Box are INTACT, however, the Fuel Pump relay is not working properly. Replaced, still not working. I jumped the pins to see if I had power to rear end and I do! But only with the pin jumped.
- OBD-II not linking; 12V present at cigarette lighter-works fine.
- I did the old wire-in-hand trick to test for spark at the wires- No spark at spark wires.
- Replaced ICM, still not working.
- Replaced crank shaft sensor, still not working.
- I did the old ether in the carb, still not working.
- I was going to replace the fuel pump, but whats the sense with no power.
Why is it that there are so many 96 Broncos having this problem?
Better yet, how do I fix it? I have read about replacing the distributor....one more zebra?
I read about a transmission switch in the column,....come on!
I have exhausted the internet and online forums trying to figure this problem out.
This process is not an efficient way to trouble shoot an issue; soon I'll be part poor!
Someone out there must know why this is happening and how to fix it.
