Truck was sitting for the winter like every year and normally I leave it in 4 by 4 but I forgot and now 4x4 won't engage.. shifts into 4hi and 4lo and the lights everything come on but no four-wheel drive.. I think it's my hubs they are automatic.. I was going to service them this Summer anyhow as it's being a hundred thousand kilometres since the last time

 

electric 4X4 or manual?
if electric, my bet is the shift motor is bad.

 

It's manual and I learned today that my left front hub is not engaging so I will service it and it'll probably be back to normal

 

swap a set on Warn premium manual hubs on it and you will never have ot worry about them again.

 

So it was the left front hub that wasn't engaging got all fixed up good to go there but while I have your attention. I have another issue.. I thought my starter went and swapped it out for a new one and still does the same thing and I've replaced the fender relay last March.. can jump the starter from below and will run but I hear what sounds like the starter trying to engage? The voltage stays low and will eventually come up as the noise goes away after a few minutes.. I put a new steering column in last year.. with the same key switch.. going to check the wire from the fender relay to the starter as soon as my buddy gets here with his ohm metre.

 

Sounds like you have a wiring problem that is back feeding the starter while the glow plug relay is engaged
