My 95 PS oil pan is leaking due to rust. The perils of the rust belt living. Anyone changed theirs? What did it take to do it and how long? Are there Aluminum pans to replace the steel so I don't have this problem again? Thanks for any input...
never done one on the big boy but did on 300 inline econoline, 4 hours in a dirt driveway, when the say lift engine 3 inches (or whatever the number is) double it
Yup. Been there. Bad news is you have to pull the engine. Some have done it by jacking up the cab and front end and jacking up the engine, but if I had to do it again I'd still pull the engine. You have to get the mounting surfaces perfectly clean or it'll leak. And you have to mount the pan properly or it'll leak. The BEST way (note: not the only way) to do this is to pull the engine and put it on a stand and turn her up-side down. Do it right and do it once. Make sure to let the RTV silicone set up for a couple of days before you put oil in it. I wouln't wait the minimum that they say, wait as long as you can, so you won't have to do it again.
On the pan: I bought a new oem pan. Sandblasted it, and painted it with a cold galvanizing primer then several coats of a good enamel, like Rustoleum. I really had no idea about powder coating at the time or I would have had the pan coated.
Yes, life in Cleveland. Might as well work on the truck. Sports teams aren't worth watching...
