ok, so i tried to get a superchip for my 2003 ranger and the guy sent it off to get burned to my engine code, well superchips came back and told him that the codes for the 2003 ranger's aren't being released. so they couldnt do it. now my questions are, is there anyway to get a superchip or no? if not, who else do you reccomend? diablo?
thanks,
J. Foster
Superchips has dropped all support for all 2001 and newer Rangers, Mazda B-Series and Explorers.
I've rarely recommended Superchips over Diablo in the Rangers. Superchips has problems with installation clearance in these vehicles whereas Diablo doesn't. Frankly, I've driven with both and the Diablo wins hands down.
thanks, also I have a cat-back dual exhaust system, and a new air intake kit. is there a special program to maximize my performance out of that or will the regular program work? also what are the advantages of having the 87 octance program?
thanks again for your help,
J. Foster
There is nothing that really needs to be done for bolt-ons such as yours. The mass air flow and O2 sensors will allow the computer to adjust automatically.
The 87 octane program only gives a slight increase at wide open throttle. It gives the same tranny benefits. You need a premium fuel program to make it worth your while when it comes to performance.
You will enjoy the Diablo over the Superchips! I have had both (still use the Diablo ), and the Diablo will out-perform the Superchips. And like Ken said, Superchips customer service and reprogramming are a thing of the past...
where would i find my code for a diablo chip? do i have to be without my truck for some time to have it installed? with the premium fuel chip would i be forced to always buy the expensive gas? any feedback is greatly appreciated. this is my first ford.
The code will be on your PCM. I believe it is on the firewall on the passenger's side - someone correct me if I am wrong. They are 3 letters with 1 number at the end. Get that and contact Ken.
Installation takes 10 minutes. Nothing to it. If you get the standard Diablo, you will have to run premium fuel, but if you get a Flip Chip, it can be preogrammed to run on both 87 and 93.
You might want to get in touch with Ken, and also look through the Computer Tuning Forum. I would highly recommend getting one though!
thank you for your prompt reply. So you are saying i can install the chip myself?? i am looking forward to getting a little more power out of my 3.0L. I am currently looking around to find out how to remove the air box silencer.
Here's the computer box on the top/center of the firewall. You'll see it on the white sticker on the box. 3 letters followed by 1 number. Yes, you can install it yourself. Its very easy, the Ranger, Explorer and Escape are the easiest Ford vehicles to install a chip into. The 3.0 perks up really good with a chip.
Cool, Cool!!
This is just what i've been getting ready to ask about.
So a Diablo for a 96 3.0L is a good thing?
Also, the info i've seen til now shows a 16hp gain for the 3.0L.
Is that only if I get it programmed for premium fuel?
I'm undecided if i should go with the premium or 87 octane setup.
Any info you have to sway me either way?
Thanks,
Bossman
