1983 4.9L

Hey there looking for a name and/or part number for this part here. Can not find anything about it other than air exchanger or thermal valve but still no parts, motor is a 4.9 out of an 83 f100 and now in a 72 f100

Part is now obsolete both from ford and the after market.. Ebay is going to be your best bet, search Air Cleaner Temperature Sensor or the base number as below.

just to let you know, there is no purpose in replacing that part and getting it working if you do not have the flexible hose and heat stove around the exhaust manifold like the picture shows below.

Part 9A995 i believe is also a bimetallic temperature switch. But like Franklin2 said, if you dont have the heat stove setup it's not helpful. I am in the same boat. My air cleaner doesn't have the provisions or the knockout for 9A995. I ran my vacuum hoses like you did. My flapper (9D612) works if you put a heavy suction on it. With the way my choke is set up now, I dont think I really need the heat stove. It'd be nice, but It barely gets below freezing here.

The heat stove was only there to mitigate carb icing. If you are in a region with higher humidity then carb icing can be an issue, it is most prevalent just above freezing. The most common situation for it is on the highway or when driving at a constant speed for an extended period of time. If you see lots of stop and go the chances of carb icing are just about zero. If it does happen it is just matter of pulling over and shutting the engine off for a min to let the residual engine heat warm the carbs venturi and melt the ice.
