Look back and laugh

Thought everyone would get a kick out of this little scenario. So im new to the whole granny gear and sloppy farm truck clutch. I come home and was going to adjust the idle a bit. so i opened the door pushed the clutch with my right foot (most of you know where this is going im sure) and pulled it out of the granny or so I thought. I had no Idea that once the initial lurch of the truck that it would be geared low enough to actually stay running and keep moving forward into my garage door. I managed to come out with only having to buy a new garage door which i needed anyway. the truck didnt even get a ding from it. and I stopped it about 3 inches short of it crushing into my fully restored 70 mercury montego. and shoving it through the other end of the garage. ok well lesson learned. I thought some of you might enjoy this little story though. later

Grannies will get you big time! I had a similar experiance with my GM truck many years ago. Only it was in front of a 7-11. I put it in gear, opened the door to get out (forgetting to shut the truck off). I hopped out to go in the store and the truck lurched forward, smacking the concrete filled pole by the walkway. The truck died of course but it left a nasty dent in the hood, grill, and core support. I turned all shades of embarresment red cuz the whole parking lot was full of people.
I guess it was a good thing the pole was there or I would have owned the front of the store.

My 66, when it used to be my fathers, was parked in the driveway in front of the garage. I was 13 and my dad told me to move it so he could get the car out. I had never driven it, and was excited that my dad would let me drive his baby, even though I didn't have a licence. I didn't know it was a standard or that he had left it in gear. Good bye garage door! Luckily I realized in time to stomp on the pedals before it hit my dads car. I think I took a boot to the a$$ for that one. Had to share, your story took me back.

Yep. In my earlier post, when I mentioned ripping trees out of the ground, I wasn't kidding. They are great for creeping up a steep grade. Saves having to rev and feather the clutch in a higher gear. With the granny, just dump the clutch and go. I can drive up a medium hill at idle. MK
