That's not saying much, the oldest one you listed is only 7 years old.

Letting the hubs lock is fine in the snow, but I don't do snow. I use the transfer case for rear reduction on mixed surfaces, including dry pavement. That is the reason for not wanting the hubs locked.

Someon above so nicely said:
The desire for manual shift transfer case has nothing to do with tradition, testosterone, history, or habit. It simply works better for me. More practical, less problematic.

My reasons for wanting the manual transfer case shifter have everything to do with tradition, testosterone, history, and habit. It simply works better for me. More practical, less problematic. AND IT IS WHAT I LIKE AND PREFER.

While they may not be that old years wise, these trucks have more hours on them already then some ever will, and none of them have had any major issues period, let alone with the esof system. That's why I thought I'd share.

If gear reduction is what you want, there is a mod you can do to wire up a relay to not allow the 4x4 system lock in so you can get 2wd low lock.

Or couldn't you put manual warn hubs in and have the same thing basically?

I get it you want what you want, but there is other ways around it since you physically can't have what you want.

Nope. A transmission cannot begin to replace the almost 3:1 gear reduction of 4-low (or 2-low), on top of whatever 1st or reverse gear offers. If you've never experienced 2-low while maneuvering a heavy trailer in tight places, then you won't get it.

Now a days the number of folks that don’t need or even use 4wd far exceeds the number of people that use 4wd.

If it's non-4wd gear reduction you want then stick a set of Warn manual hubs on it. Problem solved. Or buy a Dodge. Of course, then you own a Dodge so yeah, that part sucks. lol

Dodges/Rams don't have hubs to unlock...

I tried to get MSOS when I ordered my truck, by my dealer F-ed me over and I got ESOF...partly thanks to FORD that made MSOS an extra option that you have to make sure you choose...not a standard feature
When I was looking at ordering a new 2019 i seen you had to check the msof option...it was weird because it was at the very end of the option list almost with the factory accessory list. Seemed like Ford was doing it intentionally

A lot of folks seem to think that 4WD **** enables the invincibility feature in the truck!

I bought my '18 a year ago with 10k on it and brought it home. Shortly thereafter we had a snow storm and when I went to 4wd, no joy. There was a solenoid that had failed. And naturally by the time the local dealer got the part in and fixed the truck, there was no more snow. It has worked fine since then. I wouldn't mind having MSOF, but it isn't a deal breaker for me.

SCMOUNTAINMAN,
Hi Buddy, I've had two failures on two truck's with the auto shift on the fly one was a 1999 GMC the other was a 2007 F150 each repair was over $1,100.00 so I swore I'd never buy into (that system) again.. I am a proud owner of a 2017 F250 XL Reg Cab manual transfer case, manual windows and locks, rubber flooring etc. don't even have cruise control, you see where I'm going, no fancy crap to break... and i Love it, almost all the issues I hear / see on this site is all about the fancy pants ***** like sunroofs, forscan, auto locking hubs ... anyway i morn the day I cant get a no frills vehicle, bring back the floor dimmer switch and vent, windows, and no I'm not an old geezer just 62 yrs young,, I hope you have the truck of your dreams and it serves you well for many years ...stay safe during this covid crap....

LOL ! , If i had a feelings they would be hurt, back in the day the owners probably found something to bitch about on those trucks, maybe the lack of automatic climate control or the pesky hand crank......
