Angry code 34/stumped!!!!!

hey guys,
i cannot figure this one out. i have a 1993 e150 with a 302 and am getting a code 34. i have seen the other posts about testing and nothing seems to work on mine. my check engine light doesn't come on to give me this code but it does work. i get this code when i use my tester. i get the normal stumbling and hesitation but when i test the egr valve and evp sensor they test fine. i am not getting vacuum at the egr valve but the line is fine and i do get 18psi of vacuum at the egr vacuum solenoid so it is getting vacuum. i tried a replacement solenoid from ford and it made no difference. i am getting 13 volts to the solenoid and i read where you are supposed to get some resistance when you ohm test the solenoid but when i put my meter on both prongs i get no resistance. anybody have a clue what could be causing this? thanks in advance for any ideas.

There is a extra plug that goes between the EVR valve and the wire harness plug. It has a resister in it. That resister can go bad, or break off.

Take a look at this:

http://www.ford-truck.com/forums/sho...ght=%25252BEVR

Look at the last photo on the first page. that is the resister.

Check your to see if it bad.

code 34 is the egr valve is not opening and the stumbling and hesitation i get is while driving. my vehicle doesn't have the resistor that goes between the plug and the solenoid and i didn't see that in the manual either. i own a couple of 90's mustangs and they don't have the resistor either. i wonder why some vehicles have that and some don't? maybe i'll go to the junkyard to get one and see if that helps.

Did you take off the EGR valve and look at it? Mine was all clogged up with junk and that kept it from opening when pushed with a screwdriver much less a vaccum. I just cleaned it real good with some carb cleaner, till it moved freely, and now all's good. Not saying that's what it is, but it's not hard to get off, and you never know I guess. Later

Take egr valve off and see if its stuck wide open. This could cause very bad idle and hesitation. If its not, disconnect vacumn to it and go for a drive. Run better? If not, egr is not causing hesitation and stumbling. Your engine has a MAF doesnt it? If so, remove two little torx screws(takes a special torx with a hole in the middle), and clean two small wires with brake cleaner, especially if they look black instead of silver. If that fixes driveability problem and your lite doesnt come on while driving(34) you,re done. Hope this helps.

the first thing i did was check the egr valve and iac valve for carbon but they were both clean and i did clean them for good measure. my vehicle doesn't have a MAF sensor so that is out. i've had these problems with my mustangs and they were all easy fixes but this thing doesn't check out like the manual says. i am starting to wonder if it is something in the brain box that has gone bad. thanks again for all the help.

OK. Speed density then. MAP sensor. your stumbling and hesitation could be a bad TPS. Just for grins, look at the ends of the coil wire between the ign coil and dist. Badly corroded? Maybe a major tune-up time( cap, rotor, plugs, wires, fuel filter). Good luck and lets all pull for Rousch and Kennseth this weekend.
