Arrow Alternator

Recently had the alternator fail in my truck ('89 f150, 5.0) and have been attempting to source a replacement from rockauto. The trouble Im having though is that from what I can tell none of the plugs on the ones pictured on rockauto match the plug on my alternator. My alternator is bosch and I am fairly certain that it is the alternator that it came with from the factory. Has anyone else had this problem and what did you do ?
pic of plug on my alternator attached

Take the alternator off and find the model / serial number and see if you can cross reference to other brands.
Then either order from someplace else or take your chances with what Rock Auto sends you.

Best to do that.
Are the mounting arms offset from each other? In other words, rather than being for example at the 6:00 and 12:00 clock positions, they area at 6:00 and 10:00 instead? Kind of looks like they are at opposite ends, but that the lower mount is a double-mount. Is that correct?
If offset it looks like a #7088WH (or 2WH depending on the BAT post clocking position) but I don't see that secondary block of plastic on the side of the bearing in your second pic.
Neither one is listed as a Bosch type though, as are none of the 150's from that vintage in my book. I'll continue to look through the pics to see if anything stands out though.

Going to need a better pic since it's hard to tell for sure. Might as well take it off for that, then might as well take it with you when you go to your local store.
Or since RockAuto has pretty accurate pics most of the time, it might still show up that way.

Good luck.

Just looked through 56 pages (only 97 left to go!) of alternator images in my 2006 BBB catalog and did not see any that looked quite like yours.
Could have made a slight change over these years, and while it rarely happens with alternators, that's a known issue with some parts that get "upgraded" over the years.

Sorry 'bout that. Maybe some more info will pop up when you get closer look.
Do you know what amperage rating it has? Maybe it's stamped into the case somewhere.

Do a 3G Swap! With some modifications you can fit a mid 90's Taurus/Mustang/F-Series alternator with internal fan that can produce upwards of 130 amps. I did mine a while back, no regrets, I'll try and find my swap thread and post a link with an edit.

that's probably the most logical step, but they'd still need to source/fab new brackets to suit the different mounting style.
Guess it's time to dive back into my book to see if there are any double-mount 3G's out there too.

Or maybe not? Does not look like that double-arm setup has any purpose in this case. No air pump or any other device mounted to it, and it does not appear that there are even any additional support brackets. Just the sleeve and a long bolt.
Hmm

Appreciate the additional pics rl, but I was thinking more along the lines of having the unit sitting on a bench so you can take images of the whole thing.
For example, where is the BAT stud and charge wire? Or is it more like a 2G where there is a plug in the side of the body with the charge wire coming from it?

Since it is not connected currently, and does not even work anyway, why not just take it off completely and get a better peek?

I did not swap brackets I just had to cut a notch to fit, ended up following a link to the older offsite thread.
I used this thread as my reference point
This was also helpful
Far as parts go I found a 1995 Ford Mustang GT 3G alternator good for 130 amps you can get them from wrecking yards or rebuilt from Ford dealers or autoparts stores ... bought new the 3 wire connector specific to the alternator, also from a Ford dealer ... couple feet of 4 gauge red battery cable, mega 175 amp fuse and inline fuse holder, redid the exciter wire connector, swapped tensioners because of belt squeal and a new Gates belt.

I would call a Ford dealer with your VIN, and see if they can provide the PN.

If that didn't work, I would walk it into NAPA.

Thanks for all the advice. Hope these help. Unfortunately not as easy to get into a shop here so hoping to order off rockauto. Not adverse to having to make minor adjustments to the wiring to get another to work but just not sure on what would go where etc

I did some Googling for you and I have come up with this for you.

Let us know if this helps.

Looks like you would only need to swap pulleys.

May want to see if you can verify numbers. The alternator can be had for $60 from Walmart. Not sure of other places except for Dixie electrical. They are the Bosch supplier.

Nice find. Your "search kung fu" is very strong today Timbersteel!
I see they have single mounting flanges after all. Is yours a single eye and mounting hole on each end too rl? Or does it have the double flange on one end like it looked in the previous pics?

Sure is a strange odd duck still though. Different in almost every possible connection from a standard Ford.
While they do list in the normal books, certain non-Ford alternators for such things as ambulances and police cars, those are high-output units with larger cases generally, and nothing like we're seeing here.
An Export truck perhaps? That might make sense.

Well, the OP profile says he is in Australia and the Bosch alternator (second pic in post 12) said made in Australia.. So, a very good chance...
