I have a technical question. I own a 1978 Ford F-150 Supercab 4 wheel drive pickup with a 351M400 and a T-19 4 speed trans. I also have a 79' model 460 that was bolted to a C-6 auto. I want to transplant the 460 into my 78' 4 w/d and keep my 4 speed. I know that ill have to put a rear sump oil pan and pickup tube, and that the T-19 bellhousing will bolt to the FE 460 block, but what I need to know is, will the original flywheel from the 351 bolt to the 460 crank and work properly. Any information yall can throw my way will be much appreciated.
no they have different teeth and different size and they won't balance. you have to use the 460 wheel...about the clutch i don't know. have a good one

Do a search on 460 swaps. It's been talked about a lot, using a few different methods. Just pick the one you like. I did a 400 to 429 swap using L&L motor mounts and flywheel/clutch kit and I've never had any problems at all. Good luck.
yes, do a search on the 460 swap as it has been covered a lot. also note that the 460 is not an FE engine, it is a 385 series. you can use an FE flywheel though but be sure to check some of the other threads to find out about the flywheel ring gear issue. hawkrod
actually, the bellhousing will bolt up just fine. the 351M and 400 are the same pattern as a 429/460. the only issue will be depth of pilot engagement which is why you need to read the older threads. hawkrod
I was just reading about that over in the 460 forum, Hawk, I never knew that, contrary to what all the "mechanics" I know have said. Very good thing to know,, and I spent 8 months trying to find a 460 bell housing,, Grrrrr.
