I want to upgrade the ignition of my 1988 F150 302 5.0l to an MSD multi-spark ignition. Do I need the MSD 5 (inductive discharge) or the MSD 6A(capacitive discharge)? I already have the Accel super coil and 300 8.8mm wires.
I'm just started towing a boat in my '95 F150 4x4 (300/Mazda5/3.55s). With the canvas up, it's over 8ft tall and limits me to ~60mph on the highway. Would a MSD 6A help on the top end?
The MSD 6A is a great piece, but it won't help you too much with your boat towing problem. You either need deeper gears (higher numeric ratio) or MORE POWER. The MSD unit may give you a little bit more power, but not enough to overcome the brick you're towing.
If you're feeling rich, check out U.S. Gear's underdrive/overdrive unit. About $2k USD installed. Not cheap, but highly effective.
Has anyone experienced any hard starting issues after installing a 5A or 6A MSD box. This only occurs on the first start of the day after sitting all night. It seems to have to crank longer to start but after it starts runs like a charm.
My installed features are listed below.
Any info would be greatly appreciated
