I've have been researching the Lincoln Aviator recently and have come upon a few questions which I hope you all can answer.
First, it says 91 octane fuel minimum......I wont have a problem using premium fuel if its 10 cents above regular but if the price jumps drastically can I put in Regular without knocking?
Second, after reading the specs carefully it doesnt mention anything about an electronic Dimming mirror. Is this just left out or are they forgetting a pretty important feature on a $42,000 vehical. If the Explorer has it shouldn't the lincoln?
Yes I beleve all Lincolns come standard with the auto dimming mirror, with the compas in the upper right corner. And using regular gas or even plus will cause it to knock. Also be aware that the maintence and repairs are more than the explorer.....you are buying a luxury vehical, and if your complaining about the gas you should not be buying the vehical..another thing to be aware of is there is a lot more computer and power items that could brake in this car....there is also a computer that when its time for something to be replaced it tells you. If you will be strugling to make the payments monthly i would not buy it or lease it due to high up keep, and you will be paying close to 2 bucks a gallon for gas at least were i live. You can get a V8 exploer or Mounteneer and I dont think they call for prem gas, and the up keep is cheeper. Dont be surprised if you go to ford for the scheduled maintence and they slap with a $600 bill
I just did some research about the mirror, and i was wrong, for some reason the auto dimming mirror is not standard or is not an option for the aviator. But you do get the compas, its not in the mirror instead its in the instrament cluster. But you can ussually work a deal out with your Lincoln dealer and they can install a dimming mirror for free. I dont know why they dont put it on the aviater, its on all the other models and its like a 250 feature....who knows....good luck
The auto-dimming mirror was standard on the Aviator my friend owns. Either way, don't you guys know what a knock sensor is? It retards timing when you put in lower octane gas, so the engine doesn't knock. I would imagine the 4V modular in the aviator would have one, so knocking wouldn't be a problem. I know my SOHC doesn't need 91, nor does the 5.0, but I don't remember ANY modular requiring premium gasoline.
And for whomever said it was an overpriced Explorer. Go drive and ride in one, and tell me you still believe that. The 4V versus the 2V modular is reason enough to get the Aviator over the Explorer.

The Cobra I owned required premium fuel. (4v 4.6 modular motor)Same motor in the Aviator, Marauder, and I believe the Navigator, with a few cam changes to lower the HP and raise the torque.
And yes, it is an awesome motor as it reaches higher rpm and starts to breath. Anyhow, I wouldn't put regular fuel in that motor no matter how much premium cost. It would be a shame to grenade a VERY expensive engine to save a few bucks on a tank on fuel.
At 15k miles a year, its only about $200/yr extra to use 91, I trust if you can afford a Aviator, that wont be a problem.
I think the Aviator is regarded as overpriced simply because its a dressed up explorer, which for some reason is regarded as bad which makes no sense. The EB and Limited Explorer seemed more overpriced to me than the Aviator where you get the 4v V8, a better warranty (i think).
i'm very familiar w/ the aviator and have driven plenty of them for plenty of miles. no doubt a wonderful and beautiful machine. it is fundamentally the same as explorer w/ dressed up interior, plastic trim, fancy suspension, and indeed a quicker motor. i still maintain that it is and overpriced explorer, but of course, that is only my opinion. i would LOVE to own one myself, but perhaps i'm just cheap, or made bad life's decisions which doesn't allow me to afford such a truck. i'm more of a bang for the buck guy...
surely i'd encourage everybody to buy one of these trucks. it does my company good. heavens!, the profits for Ford on this truck are incredible. buy, buy, buy... (make sure you ask dealer for that all important dimming rear view mirror tho )
