I'm in the middle of replacing all my fan belts and thought I would ask if any of you have any advice as to what type or brand to use.
I am replacing the fan belts on my 460, it has ps,alt,pb. what type of belt do you recommend for best longevity and performance?
I'll get laughed right off the site for this and the purists will admonish me for it, but if you don't want to ever change your belts again, and want a truly unique industrial look use these. I have them on all my heavy equipment that doesn't require serpentine or cog belts.
Yes, sized by width, you make your own length to suit. They are linked belts that you can take apart.
This is one that I have on the dozer engine: https://www.harborfreight.com/vibrat...elt-43771.html
(old picture) You need a pair of pliers to undo and redo the links.
You can't find aftermarket belts that will last as long as original equipment belts. With that said, the next best option I have found is from NAPA. My local NAPA store carries belts at two different price levels. I've had good luck with their more expensive line on all my cars and trucks.
You might to do some research before installing an industrial belt on your car or truck. I suspect they are designed for a completely different type of use and environment.

I would say the use is identical - power transmission. But I would say the "industrial" environment would be much more harsh and demanding, like the belt on the dozer gets constant good doses of hot dusty/dirty air with no issues in over 700 hours of operation. All my other linked belts live a sheltered life under cover. Not to mention that some industrial applications run 24/7/365.
The manufacturer says they are not recommended for auto use. I would be worried about my p.s. belt in particular because of the tension I need on it to keep it from slipping. I think I will stay with the tried and true.

I've used the higher-level NAPA belts as well as Gates Green Stripe belts, with no problems. The base level AutoZone belts are pure crap.
mixer man, I didn't read It on their site, I called one of their repsand that is what he told me.
Was that a Fenner or Jason rep? I'm going to call too because I have had them on the excavator and skid steer, as well as the dozer for quite some time. I'd like to hear the reasoning behind it.
