For the average DIY installer this wouldn't be an advisable project---it would require finding and exchanging the entire wiring harness for the Ford RKE (remote keyless entry) system. Add in the module could be DOA or difficult to repair if/when it developed issues. Rather than go this route find an "easy" DIY installation aftermarket alarm system that includes keyless entry.
While they're not currently made I've used something called CrimeGuard 350i5 which have been flawless since 2008, have three of them installed and running right now/ A fairly easy install if you're somewhat experienced with automotive electrical systems & schematics and working with relays. Most any good quality alarm system would work though, the less complex the better.
anybody been succesful in adding the factory remote fobs and receiver on a '04 E350? Mine has the power locks, but no remote.
What parts do I need to throw in?
Best,
Moe
I bought a used E350 van with power windows/locks. I had no remotes. I don't know if this van came with remotes from the factory... but a lot of fords of that year had the module installed if it had power locks. I simply bought remotes off amazon, looked in the owners manual for the procedure to sync the remotes, and everything worked.
To see if you have it, try getting into programming mode. If you do this procedure and you get into programming mode, id think you're already set up for remote keyless entry.
INSERT key and TURN Ignition from OFF to RUN 8 times within 10 seconds, with the 8th time ending in RUN. Door locks will cycle to confirm successful entry into Programming Mode. (OFF is the position where you can remove your key, RUN is the position just shy of starting your car.)
This is the remote I bought 3 years ago and its still working.
