1974 F100: So looking to see the original color of my truck and saw the is no letter/number stamped on the Warranty Plate.
Truck is original paint in and out as far as I can tell (Silver). Anyone else seen this? Many times.
COLOR code stamped on the 2nd line of the Warranty Plate, between the WB (wheelbase) and MODEL code.
If there's no COLOR code stamped on the Warranty Plate, the DSO code (3rd line-far right) contains 6 digits.
The first 2 digits decode to the Ford District Sales Office the truck was ordered from.
The last 4 digits denote a Domestic Special Order. Truck ordered special by the original purchaser, not "bought off the lot."
No COLOR code: The truck was painted a non standard color, making it a Domestic Special Order.
If the truck needed to be repainted, the dealer contacted FoMoCo with the 6 digit DSO. FoMoCo looked up the order number, passed the paint formula back to the dealer.
