Bad pvc valve.

Has any one else experianced a lose of oil and could not figure out why you had to add a quart to bring the level up? Well I jst got done rebuilding the top end of my 5.4 to find 1 1/2 quarts of oil in the lower plenum. After thinking about how it got there I discoverd that the original PVC valve has a plastic plunger in a metal cage assembly. With years of moving up and down the plunger wore to the point that it was literally pulling oil from the valve cover because of to much vacuum. It really gummed things up. after leaning and replacing the PVC valve with a all steel unit the oil stays in the motor. I guess they mean it when they state to change this thing! Just because they still rattle dosent mean they are still good.

That bites. I can't even remember when I'm supposed to change the PCV valve, so I just do it once or twice a year.

You should be happy you're not driving a Honda/Toyota - usually, a bad PCV valve will blow all the seals out of the engine!

talk about having to add a quart
