Which starter button

One place I read that if you switch from 6V Positive ground to 12V Negative ground you cannot use the regular starter switch and have to go to one with 2 poles. Another place says it is OK to use the standard starter button with 12V and negative ground. Which is correct???

You can use the original starter button with 12V. You can also use the original 6V starter and start solenoid.

1952/55 starter switch button (2C-11500-A) was also used as the windshield washer push button switch on 1965/66 F100/250.

It was located above the ignition switch on the left side of the dash.
