Are the wheel bearings on the 99 f350 known for going bad? Whenever i turn left (at road speed) i hear a growling but when i turn right or go straight, nothing. I would assume that its my front right wheel bearings. Thoughts? Comments?
I have basically the same set up as you and I have had to have both front wheel bearing assys replaced. After market parts stores claim that they can't get them and Ford does not sell just the bearings. I had to buy the entire assy at $550 each time.
I have a 99 f350 diesel with a 12" lift and 42" tires. My front wheel bearings just went bad. I only have 50,000 miles on the truck. The dealer says they are covered under the extended warranty but they won't cover mine because of the lift and oversize tires.
Are these wheel bearing going bad on stock trucks as well as modified trucks?
I'll bet , if you look at the stock bearings they're made in China.. All ***** products made of metal for tools or automotive parts are garbage. The trailer mfg. are using them and require them to be repacked every six months to relieve them of liability when they fail and cause damage or physical harm, because they are sure no one is going to do it that often ... Who ever heard of repacking an American wheel bearing twice a year ? My boy had two fail in six months until he made sure the replacements were American made...
Chief..
Is your truck a '99... 350 and earthmover states theirs are 1999. Maybe that's the year Ford started using the foriegn junk and I may be O.K. with my old '97..... I've got 52,000 on it so I better check .....
I think my left front bearings may be going too. I have the say noise when I make left turns but not right.
Does anyone know how big of a job that is? I am a little concerned because of the auto hubs with maual over ride, not to mention the whole axel is run by vaccum.

Jerrybo,
Your 97 has the old style bearings. You can disassemble and grease them and tighten them when they get loose. The SD's are the only ones with the sealed style bearings. They are made by Timken. I don't know if they are from China or not.
If they are Timkens, that's good enough for me. That means good ol' U.S.of A steel and are perfectly round. I still have the original front wheel bearings in my '73 F-100...
Thank ya' much for the reply ..
