i know the suspension is supposed to be stiff on trucks, the super duty in particular. but i was wondering if Bilstein shocks would help smooth out my ride without sacrificing a good solid suspension that can handle anything. i have heard that the Bilsteins are the way to go and seem like a very dependable long lasting shock. Would the Bilstein 5100 series shock fit under the Super Duty or would i have to go with the lower series shocks? If you have any other suggestions on a brand let me know.
I put bilsteins on my 2000 F 350 V 10 and noticed a difference in the ride. The wife even commented that the truck seemed to have a smoother ride. She didn't know that I had changed shocks.
The shocks are rated for the F350 so they will take a load.
But, don't you have to have a lift of at least 3" to get the 5100's? I got an add-a-leaf in the front which raised it about 2" and I also have 4" blocks in the rear. Even with this set-up I am sure I can't get the 5100's. Anyone have this problem?
5100's are on my shopping list also, even though I don't have any lift (yet). Planning on a 2" leveling like Nitwit29. I read earlier that there are different applications and stock numbers for 5100's depending on your setup, correct? Anyone?
Nitwit29, which kit did you go with and how do you like it? Is your nose still slightly lower than the tail? That's what I'm after.
You can get the Bilstein 5100s for a stock truck.....the shock part number is for 0-2" of lift if I remember correctly.....but they are only available in the yellow body/blue boots.......if you go 3" or more you can get the zinc body/black boots 5100s.
0-2" lift 5100 w/ SD specific valving part #:
front: BE5-2818-HO
rear: BE5-2819-HO
Are the 2818 and 2819 valved for the SD? I thought I read somewhere that only the 3-6" of lift are 5100's valved for our truck. I think I remeber where i can find it.
I tried this search and found this post by OverKill. But I remeber reading it again here recently cause this was posted in August.
Keep searching for the more recent post cause as I remeber the 2818 and 19's were pointed out directly as not being valved for the SD. Kinda bugs me DCSpecial cause it just doesn't sound right.
