NO Downshift from OVERDRIVE.

i've got a MY03 F250 w/ 6.0L and 5-spd Auto Tranny, w/ only ~1500 miles on...

when travelling at highway speeds (70mph+), i tried to 'floor' it a few times this weekend, and expected a Downshift to lower gear... but Nothing... it just gradually picked up speed in 5th gear. is speed too high to warrant a downshift?? (say 75/80mph-ish?)

then also, tried something again today around town driving (again in 5th gear, but not as fast, ~55-ish mph), only THIS time, i'd push in the TOW/HAUL button on gearshift arm (lamp on gearshift end would illuminate), and expected a Downshift to lower gear... but Nothing...

Is this Auto Tranny different that 'OTHER' tranny's?? i thought the Tow/Haul button would be same as other cars' "OD OFF" button and just drop a gear...???

what am i missing here???

thanks much.

The torqshift is a true 5 speed (so I have been told) and tow/haul turns the OD off on other trannies because it isnt actually a real gear, it is called a lock-up converter and locking and unlocking tears them up fairly easy.
The torqshift having 5 real gears is able to use OD or 5th gear while hauling with out wrecking it since the converter doesn't have a lock, or something along that line.
My truck doesn't kick down either at that speed, but still pulls pretty hard! I hope we don't have one of those glitches people have been talking about!!!!!
If I have given any incorrect info about the tranny, I'm only going on hear-say! So go easy on me!!! Thanks guys!!!

The tow haul button lets the computer shift your truck under load. If you watch your tach in tow haul your RPM's will stay around 2000 to 2500 while driving. It keeps you in the meat and potatoes. I'm gonna go and try my truck this morning and see if it down shifts at that speed.
And it shouldn't down shift at highway speeds when the button is on it isn't an overdrive button it is a tow haul button.

interesting feedback. thanks much!!!

not being at all hip to this new thing... i just thought the Tow/Haul button was an OD Off button. guess not.

another question. are the SPEED INPUTS (from ABS wheel sensors) used for this Tow/Haul feature? or is it merely Engine Speed (Tach) that controls it? (there's been times when my Wheel Spds Snsrs have been InOp, and i cannot really notice any difference).

thx.
