88 Bronco 2 project
He got this old not running bronco 2 2wd and another 4wd without a motor. He plans to put the 4x4 stuff in the 2wd, if he can get it running. He has been at it for weeks, throwing parts at it and getting nowhere.
He is not getting spark unless he unplugs the pcm or spout connector. He has had new Icm three times, new pcm twice, because everyone tells him that must be it. But it is not. New rotor, cap, coil, tested relays, checked grounds, traced wires...
Anybody out there run in to anything like that before? He is currently contemplating the merits of using it for target practice, which is a shame as he was so excited about the project a few weeks ago.
I appreciate your help.
First off, I need a little more information, like what years are both trucks, which engines were originally in both trucks??
I will presume they are the same year and had the same engine:
since it does start that's good ,wouldv it sounds like the timing is off. Get a good idea of where the distributor should be but leave the distributor loose enough to be able to adjust it while running (not so loose that the hold down piece falls off). Then disconnect the pigtail or spout cap and start the engine with a timing light on. 12° btdc comes to mind but it is well know, in the manual and on the sticker under the hood. Set the base timing, turn off the engine, reconnect the spout plug cap.
I appreciate you responding. Sorry I didn't think to update this thread.
