F500 Flat Bed

So I picked up the wood for the truck bed. Got it from the Amish. It is oak. 1 1/2”x8”x10’. Planned smooth on one side rough on other side. I like the smooth side up (that’s what pictured). I laid it up, It looks awesome. Smells good too. Question is should I put it on tight with no gap or should I leave 1/16” gap between board? I will be staining and waterproofing to match the rack. Just ordered all the stainless steel bolts, washers, and lock nuts.

**I also got my rims. Waiting on valve stems now.

I need to rip both boards on the edges so they come out even rather than all 8s until the very last which would be only 4”

Looks awesome! Unless the wood is aged for several years it's going to shrink a little. If you want a nice flat even surface, I would grab my router and make all T&G or splined joints. Don't even consider biscuits.

if you have extra width boards you could do a tongue ad groove joint. This would help to keep your top surface even. great looking truck. Best of luck.

Depends on the wheel base, I think that my 56 F350 has an 8 ft. bed.

A Ford factory script bed on an F350 is 9'. My F350 has an after market bed that is 10' long.

That looks great!

But what's a guy from upstate NY drinking Iron City? Shouldn't you be drinking Genny?

Went back home to PA recently. Had to pick up some of the home brew I grew up on. Genny cream ale, genny, and genny light were all we ever us to drink at the fire station. If you didn’t like it, you didn’t drink it! Now we have about 12 different kinds.
