I was wondering if anyone knows where I can buy the gear to cooler and cooler to reservoir power steering lines for a 2000 7.3. Apparently Ford has discontinued manufacturing the part. I'm curious if anyone has had to replace these before, and what did you do. If I can't find aftermarket lines, I guess I can always go to NAPA or something like that and have someone make me the lines. The Ford part number is 4C3Z3A713B. Thanks for the future help!
IHAddict, I would strongly recommend the use of the Ford hoses, mainly the high pressure hose which typically blows out at the PS pump. My reason being that the box store hoses have a poor mechanical fitting at the pump when compared to the Ford hose. The fitting at the pump uses a nylon type gasket so one has to be careful when tightening that connection.
Also check where the hose goes by the shock tower. It can naturally rub thru there. Add a few inches of split heater hose at the shock tower location to prevent rubbing thru prematurely.
I'll second going with OEM on the hoses, in a pinch I got an aftermarket hose and upon replacement I could plainly see the difference. But the lines he's talking about are not pressure lines and it does look as though Ford no longer makes them so he's looking at NOS if he can find them. The ones I linked above have the same part number but instead of a 'B' on the end they have a 'CA', which I believe denotes a later version of the same part. Oh, and this is not the hose that passes by the shock tower.
Box store parts can be ok if the truck isn’t your work horse, but every time mine failed I was on the road out of stare traveling for work, so I’m an OEM guy for that reason. However, I finally came up with a better hose made at the hydraulics store using a stainless steel braided line with a Teflon liner. Sous has made a PDF of this for me with the parts in the Tech Folder.
