I thinking of either a flowmaster or a dynomax system. 3" single. This would be on a 92-f-150 4x4 with 302. I want some noise but not to much. I know dynomax has sounds on there web site, but what about the flowmaster? I've seen debates both ways. All I really want is a good flowing system that isn't to abnoxious, and is reasonablly priced. any input or knowledge of where I can here both. Thanks
I'm in the same boat as you, same truck too. What is the web address for dynomax? I was looking at a Flowmaster 50 series with 3" inlet and dual 2.5" outlets. The 50 is a little quieter than the 40.
My truck has a 302 and I have a flowmaster 40 series 2.5" in 3" out muffler, with 3" turn down pipe in front of the rear axle...I set off car alarms everytime I drive through a parking lot. Some dont want to be that loud...all I can say is for my next truck that I buy, I will be putting a dynomax turbo dual kit on, they sound SOOO sweet!
I have a 95 F-150 with the 302 in it. When I got it about a year and a half ago I put on the DynoMax SuperTurbo muffler on, with dual 3" tips coming straight out of the back. It sounded real good, but last week I decided I wanted more sound, than what I was getting. Don't get me wrong it sounded great, but not loud enough for me. So I decided to go with a Flowmaster 40 series. The first turn of the key and there was absolutley no difference in sound. I was extremely dissapointed, because i just wasted 125 dollars, to hear the exact same thing. My advice would be to go with the Dynomax superturbo, it's cheaper, and sounds just as good, and gives the same performance.
I have a custom built flowmaster system, I have no clue which muffler they used though. I do know that it is a single in Fual out with 3 1/2" diameter tips, that are 24" inches long. It has a good resonance, and quality sound. It almost sounds like a Mustang with a true dual system.
The other mods I have done to my exhaust system are, Swapped out the dual cats, with a single high flow cat, and added a set of Shorty Headers. I noticed a dramatic sound improvement after adding the headers.
It's not just the muffler that makes the system. You have to have the right additions to it, to make it sound righteous.
I am working on getting the sounds of my 88 up on my website. As soon as I can get them up there I'll post an update.

I have an 88 f-150 with a 302 bored 40 over and stroked. I recently got flowmaster 40 series mufflers and it sets off car alarms when i go into a parking lot. It has a deep rumble like no other exhaust system that i have ever heard. Other than flowmaster I would recommend bolora because that is the closest thing that you will get to a flowmaster. I believe that flowmaster has the best sound on the market.
Well, I just finished installing the Dynomax system on my truck. It was really easy, everything needed was in the kit. I ordered it from Summit Racing,$199 delivered to my door. It sounds good without being obnoxious. I could tell a difference in perfomance right away. I got the super turbo muffler with duals both exiting at the stock location. Thanks for your inputs, maybe this will help someone else.
Not sure if it's legal or not here or anywhere, but I recently bought a sharp 95 F150 XLT with 5.0. It's all stock with the exhaust except the previous owner cut out the muffler and it's running nothing but a straight pipe out the back behind the passenger's rear wheel. Not too loud, but has the deep throated sound I've always wanted out of a V8. I've kicked around the idea of redoing the exhaust, but after listening to it sound off over a half a mile away while my brother was test driving it. Not sure if that's up your alley, but it's a heckuva lot cheaper than shelling out $200 plus for mufflers.
$200 for mufflers? here are you getting a price quote from. I had my entire system built (Flowmaster single in/dual out muffler, two pipes, and two 3 1/2 inch 24 inch long chrome echo tips) For $235, that was with labor and tax included.
I just got a price from a local shop to do my 65, the other day. For two three chamber flowmasters they wanted $100 each! I can get them cheaper than that out of the summit catalog and have them shipped to me for less than $100 each. Plus they wanted $30 more to make the system up from the manifolds! Not counting the crossover pipe I wanted them to put in, they were going to charge me close to $300 after labor! I am going to another shop Monday, I have had two systems done by this other shop and I really trust their work. I've had the system on my 88 for two years now and haven't had a problem out of it yet! And I had a system built by them on a 66 Mustang with a 289, and they charged me under $300 for everything, labor, tax and the two, two chamber flowmasters I had installed. And they supplied the mufflers. I guess some shops make up their own prices, which is fine, but some of us are smart and get other quotes befoer having work done.
