transporting and engine & tranny

I am going to be transporting a 360 and 4 speed tranny from a parts truck - probably this weekend.. I know I saw a picture on here somewhere of a pair of timbers someone uses as a "stand" for an engine. I would like to find that or something like it to help me figure out how to secure the engine and tranny in the back of my truck - without damaging the load or the truck.

Would it be better to keep them together or separate them?

Can you help?
Thanks!

i always use a old tire without the rim. just sit the oil pain in the hole. thats how us down south do it.

Thanks TJ.

I am going to be going about 200 miles, if I put it on a tire and strap it down, would that bend up the pan? I'm just kind of worried about clearance between the pan and the truck bed.

If I set it on wood blocks, what surfaces are ok to rest it on. I'm assuming the crank pulley is a bad idea...

Thanks again

If you have a 2x12, some time and the inclination:

Build a cradle that lets the engine rest on the oil pan side rails. This is how virtually all crate engines are mounted into the crate.

I have used the tire trick for years and never damaged anything but a couple of oil filters because I used too wimpy of a tire and the engine rocked. A tire and a ratchet strap should do the trick just fine.
