rearend collision cause engine problem?
reply
when drove into shop for repair oil pressure fine. when driving home from shop, no oil pressure. have not found reasonable explanation why? some theorys was pick up screen clogged.,,, was clean when looked at, it seems a really crazy coincidence that at that very time something could have gone out in the motor like oil pump etc. i have heard that just because the collision was in the rear that doesnt mean its out of the question that damage in motor could happen . just wondering if anyone else has heard of it happening...
Well you're pretty much exactly at the threshold for needing a full timing set anyhow and a HV oil pump
But in all seriousness, what makes you believe no oil pressure? Dash gauge reading alone? It should sound like an old school diesel if you truly don't have oil pressure.

yes it is screaching or you could call it worse than old school diesel,, plus guage reading. the engine is clearly not being oiled. the question is why? my insurance said they would pay for new motor if i could show a relation to the wreck. so far there is no explanantion. i thought i read on this site that rear end collisions can cause motor problems. when we looked in the pan the pickup screen was clean. the problem in my mind is it would be one heck of a coinsadence for the oil pump to go out at exactly the time we picked up the truck from the rear end repair. and i have been told an old pump would just give low oil pressure and not "no" oil pressure. I have pretty much decided to replace the motor and have the one being taken out investigated to discover the cause.i also had drained the oiland sifted it and found nothing, then added new oil with no change to engine.

I think you're on the right track. Investigate the engine and find the issue, then show the insurance company. It could also have been some kind of abuse between the wreck and the end of the repair as well. It wouldn't be the first time I've seen a shop have "a little fun" with customer vehicles.
