Has anyone measured wheel temperature? I thought to check the temperature at the hubs and it was +ten degrees left to right in the rear. Just wondering?
I've never checked with an actual thermometer. Just checked by hand to make sure my bearings were not running hot and that my brakes were not dragging. Just to see if everything was "normal" I guess you would say.
What were the conditions of your test. Had you been out driving for awhile? Had it been parked for awhile? Sunny day?
I can watch my tire pressures go up on the sunny side, which is why I asked about the sun in your case. I could see a difference easily of ten degrees or more between sun and shade. If that was even a thing in your case?
But I can also see slight variations in brake friction too.
What were your actual measurements, and what were the conditions?
I also have never checked it with a thermometer. I assume that climate circumstances, vehicle conditions, brake usage, etc. could cause it to vary widely. I've always assumed that if I can hold my hand on it without discomfort all is O.K. I once overheated a rear brake on my 442 due to dragging brake shoes. The brake drum glowed orange. Perhaps one day I'll get the infrared thermometer out and get some real numbers on the truck.
Just a normal drive in the country. Parked in my garage.out of the sun. Out of curiosity I used an infrared thermometer to measure as near to the axle as possible. I find the various temperatures of the engine are interesting. I'm not sure what they should be. Just interesting. Radiator top and bottom, in and out, intake manifold etc.
