We have a 2016 Crusader 295 RST 5er. Usually my wife and I are alone. Very occassionally we have overnight guests. Think 3 nights in last 1 1/2 years.
The mattress on the fold out couch is awful!! We’d like to upgrade the mattress without breaking the bank. I was thinking possibly an air mattress on top, or possibly a different mattress.
We have two fold outs for guests, neither were acceptable for adult sleeping (when extended). However sleeping on them while closed (one person per) was acceptable. Youngsters don't seem to mind.
If they wish to snuggle together then an air mattress (on the floor) is more comfy.

We have 1 folding couch and 2 theater seats. Trailer is in storage for winter so I have some time to consider possibilities. Possibly just air mattress on floor.
When we got our Crusader 365RES it came with an L shaped sofa that had a fold out bed, the sofa was uncomfortable & the bed part even more so. We swapped out the sofa for a 3 seater with electric recliner at each end & bought a full size inflatable bed for when guests stay over. The bed is around 2ft high so easy to get on & off. It does occupy most of the lounge floor space, but I've slept on it myself (when youngest granddaughter decided she wanted to cuddle up with gran & the dog on my bed!) & it's nearly as comfortable as the luxury memory foam mattress we have!

That may be the way we go. The couch is fine as a couch, just awful when open as a bed.
There are sofa bed air mattresses available, just a bit pricey for the better models. We tried the air mattresses available at Walmart, all were considerably longer than the sofa bed, so I bit the bullet and got a Legget and Platt., made a world of difference.
Friends of ours just bought a gel mattress for their fifth wheel, for about half of what I spent and they swear by it, but I haven't had a chance to check it out yet.
I use an inflatable sleeping pad from Exped USA. Mine is not more than 2" thick. It is so much more comfortable than the mattress that came with my trailer. I can get enough air in there to make it rock hard. Let some air out and it's squishy. Almost as good as my Sleep Number bed at home.
Exped USA has a variety of sizes. I have the SIM Comfort Duo 5 out of the Base Camp line. It's good for just me even though it's designed for two people (but only if you were in a tent).
